Yes, as actor Clint Eastwood, said " A man's got to know
his limitations" , two things I don't do is weld and paint. I took
my Lycoming RV motor mount and used it as the starting point since I have a nose
gear and didn't want to try to design all the geometry for it. Its hard to
progress with the engine compartment without a motor mount.
I used a 2-D CAD program to try and help me avoid
motormount engine components interference and still ran into areas where even
1/4" distance would have made life easier. But, of course, it was 1/4" in
the wrong direction.
I do not fly much (if at all) during the summer
months - that bubble canopy really heats up quickly in the summer sun - so I can
understand (having lived in Texas) why you want A/C.
Well, now you can hang the motor and really get started on
the FWF configuration or is that FWA in the case of canards?

mount
Thanks Ed,
I had it professionally welded. My late brother-in-law was to help
me build it last year but cancer took him before we could get all the ducks in
a row. I could not get the mount to come together, how to cut the pieces
then who could weld it. No one near here would help and if I could not
get the mount finished, the project would be abandon due a great deal to
discouragement. I found an aviation welder in the Dallas area that would
work with me (I due contract work in that area so am down there from Oklahoma
quite often) and we got it welded in three sessions. Took the square
part directly under engine first, glued together with wood strips, then the
support structure and last the two outer top braces. Not painted yet and since
firewall is not complete, the reason for the grayscale picture. If I
can't get the air conditioner to clear the outer support ( it did before
welding but something shifted), I might cut the top supports and narrow the
rear piece to fit a standard Cozy lower cowl. I can get the use of a
cowl from a friend in Texas to use as a mold. He is almost insistent
that I go the mold method instead of custom cowl the way John Slade did.
So am grinding away on the bracket and want desperately to have a/c here in
hot southwest.

Nice looking welding job, Wendell.
Needless to say, an important step along the
way.

Here is my engine mount. Finally got it welded and am temporarily
setting it up to check for fit and leaks.
