DI would indeed be 'the bomb'.   Hope Mazda picks up on this for the rotary because a DIY injector port into the combustion chamber is not something for the average home workshop!

Yes Bob, The newest piezioelectric injectors will be capable of doing exactly that. With a sofisticated enough EMS we could even run without a throttle valve, but that is really for the future. I think Tracy's system might even be able to fire the injector. I have an inquiry into Siemens about the system. Used on the new gasoline Audis, and diesels for several years.

Direct injection into the chamber after the intake port closed would be the nuts I would think...If you can do that. If thats the case you could port as you please without hurting your mpg.

Bob,
The engine in a Toyota Prius has overlap. My point is that it is NOT the sole determination of economy. This isn't the biggest factor for efficiency. I believe managing charge contamination is important, sure but not the only factor. I think the new direct injection systems will work very well with the rotary. The point is that getting the engine to pump the most air at a given RPM is "THE WAY."

And let me assure you, a P port will NOT get the same GPH. Theres a lot of fuel wasted with the P Port due to the overlap in timing.
