Hi Joe,

I made a throttle body plenum out of a two part polyurethane casting resin. Works fine and I have flown with it over three years.  However, it is suspended in the air on my intake runners and not bolted next to a hot block, the temperature limits appear to be around 300F - not as high as I would like for putting anything near the exhaust heat.  I intend to do some further research and experimentation - one of these days.

I find that for the throttle body plenum it works very well.  You suspend silicon rubber cores (I cast mine in bent tubing) in the plenum body void and then pour in the polyurethane - it hardens in about 15 minute or less. you pull out the silicone rubber cores and I use a hole saw to cut through from the TB mounting surface to the tunnels left by the silicone cores, a few inserts to take the bolt loads and I'm done.

Has any one made an intake from composite?  I thought Ed did but I am not
sure on the limitations.  Does the fuel/air mix pose a threat to the
integrity of a composite intake? Backfire? Combustible? For those of us that
built their airframes from composite it might be easier than welding. Just
a thought.

Thanks all for your comments. I really do appreciate it. This list is by
far the best rotary list around. I'm not so sure I want to drill holes in my
engine to make a Paul-Port looks like I will be going with the Mistral
intake, if I can get Francoise to answere my e-mail. I think he is a bit
busy these days. Anyway thanks for the reality check. I'll get back to
sanding and filling and sanding and so on and so on. If I have anymore
bright ideas I'll let you guys in on it straight away.

Tony
