My Cosmo had about an inch of the outer O ring area blown out also.  I TIG welded it up and ground and filed the repair back to looking good.. When i took my engine to Mr. Turrentine for inspection,  he felt that the repair would be OK,,,but there were other issues with the engine and i ended up ordering a Renesis from him and parting out the Cosmo.  FWIW.

I have a front housing that the outer "O ring" seal's wall has broken off! (about 1/2") I remember seeing that someone had repaired this area, and I'm trying to see if they were successful with their repairs. This appears to be a weak area when the engines get over heated. Not much "meat " outside of that seal. Anyone making NEW front (in the car) housings might want to make that flange wider (Mike McGee, Get back to work)
