Ok Al, I'll admit to ovestating the case, sorry. I still believe you are far far better off to have a filter. If you desire a straight shot at altitude make one that can be valved out of the circuit. Engine builders, ( myself included ) used to say the only engine that doesn't need a filter is an aircraft that never lands, or a car that never starts. My diatribe was meant to shake everyone out of the woe is me thinking that had seemed to be creeping in. No personal offence intended. I have run racing engines without filters when none could be fitted due to clearances, but wear hear wouldn't cause a off-field landing.
