Let me throw this out there again.  I have the opportunity to purchase a Renesis that came out of a 2005 RX8 that was totaled with 1000 mile on it.

Hi Bob,

I think common sense will rule on the damage issue.  There's a lot of ways to total a car, that won't put a scratch on the engine or transmission.  Was it hit in the rear, side, or did it hit a wall at 100 mph?  I'd say if there's no visible sign of damage to the block itself, then it's probably just fine.

If it turns smoothly, has good even compression, and doesn't appear damaged, I wouldn't even think about taking it apart.   Once you get it in the plane and running, you'll have plenty of opportunity to find out if it seems to have problems before you have to fly it.

As for the tension bolts, has anyone looked at the Renesis bolts to see if they've improved them?  In later years of the 13B, I think they tried to make them better, and since the Renesis turns high rpms routinely, they might have fixed this problem.  I can't believe it would be a problem if you wanted to remove one at a time to coat them, just make sure you order some new tension bolt seals before you do it :-)

Cheers,
Rusty (friends don't let friend fly turbos)
