Joe,
Does your controller have a software timing adjustment ?? I know that with the EC2, you can change the timing from the panel.  I didn't have to change the timing on mine, but I know that you can. Perhaps you controller has a similar feature.

This is not nice guys! Everybody is telling Joe that he is too retarded :)

Hey – I resemble that remark!

I only had a few minutes to run out and throw a timing light on it tonight and, yes, I am way retarded – oh, and so’s the engine timing.

But I’m in a bit of a quandary.  I set TDC on the flywheel as Lynn described and it looked so perfect. But the timing light is showing it firing at 40+Deg. ATDC and when I turn the Crank Angle sensor as far as it will go trying to advance it I can only get up to about 20Deg ATDC. The engine, however, sounds MUCH, MUCH better as I advance the timing – although that may also be because I pickup about 100RPM when I do that.

Oh, and the little red and yellow dots on the main pulley seem to be correlating with the flywheel marks at this point.

Now, I am supposed to put the timing light on the #1 Leading plug lead, right? That’s what my Mazda manual says.

I guess I’ll have to see if I can re-position my Crank Angle sensor this weekend and see what happens when I can advance it further.

The MicroTech setup manual says to set the idle timing to 5Deg ATDC – it also says that is the yellow mark on the pulley).
