I was focused on oil consumption worries.  But, I agree if you want a warning of leaks especially with Canards then you do probably need something like that.  In any case, I am certainly not against them - they seem simply and the failure mode would appear to be benign.  And besides, if it makes you feel better then I'm all for it.  No point in flying all tensed up {:>)

An oil level sensor makes me feel better, Ed.
It's not about consumption, it's about leaks.
Earlier on I had a partially blocked breather and oil was being forced out of the sump seal at about a quart and hour. The oil level sensor, which is hooked up to my voice warning system, told me (literally) that there was a problem. I landed one quart low and fixed the problem. Works for me.
