That was my thinking as well - more oil volume,
less material = better cooling.

RX8 rotor does in fact hold more oil than it's predecessors, as

I seems to me that since the RX-8 rotor is about the same external shape and is lighter, that the added internal volume (less iron) would be larger, so, more oil.
 
The thinner walls would cool better yes?
