George,  I need to clarify a few points.  First, I am running a 13B not a Renesis.  My engine has a double wedge shaped oil pan that  has the same capacity as the stock 13B pan (5 qts) but is shaped perfectly to not conflict with the wedge plenum that will go above my radiator. I built this pan nearly two years ago.

I knew nothing of the capacity of the Renesis pan until Bobby sent me his.  I was somewhat shocked by the shallow shape and the low capacity.   Clearly this pan has more to do with fitting into the RX8 chassis then it does about being an ideal reservoir for the engine.  The good news is that it is modifiable.  In fact I would say that it will be easier and cheaper to put a double wedge pan on the Renesis than it is for the 13B.   Just a guess at this point but I expect the new pan to hold  more than the 13B pan.    What ever it holds, it will be a dramatic improvement over the original.

I also like the idea of the pick up tube deeply immersed  in oil, especially in steep climbs.        Jerry

Jerry,
I suspect you remember that Francois Badoux identified a oil pump cavitation
at 3,500 rpm on the stock RX7 mazda. This was identified by a significant
pressure drop in oil supply.

He remedied this by putting in an extra pick-up tube as the oil pump was
being starved of oil at 3,500 rpm.

No one else has, to date, to my knowledge, identified this phenomena and it
was interesting to LATER discover that he had developed his own DEEPER oil
pan.

Someone suggested to me that the racing people only ever had this problem
when the oil pan was overfilled.

Now for the life of me I can't understand why this is so, but I feel
compelled to advise you of this so that you may watch for possible pressure
drops, if your developing a deeper pan.

George ( down under)

Bobby,  it looks like the Renesis oil pan can be modified into a deep
wedge shape with  much  more capacity and with the pick up deeply
covered in oil.   Jerry

Jerry,

I would feel much better with a minimum of 7 quarts. The Greddy RX8
aftermarket oil pan is also larger than stock.

Thanks Bobby,  it looks like the Renesis is running on  nearly 1.5 qts.
less oil than the 13B.  Jerry

Jerry,

On Bruce T's recommendations I am planning on using the older 13B
pickup tube. He said it would need to be modified to fit with Fred's
mounting plate.

I have attached the oil info from the RX8 shop manual. It looks like
the
6 port has more oil capacity.

Can anyone tell me if the Renesis pick up tube bolts up to the oil
pump
the same as the 13 B?   I am trying to determine if I can use the  13
B
pick up tube in a custom oil pan for a Renesis.   If not, the Renesis
pick up tube will  have to be  modified.
FYI,The 13 B oil pan is two inches deeper than the Renesis pan and
holds
158 oz.  The Renesis oil pan holds 96 oz.

At oil change how much oil does the Renesis take?   The 13B takes 5
qts with filter.     Thanks,   Jerry
