I have been insured by Avemco since 1997 with my Rotary Powered RV-6A. However, they were expensive, I got a much lower price quote from AIG through SkySmith. My understanding is that the type of aircraft, engine and pilot experience makes a considerable difference. When SkySmith found out I was using Tracy Crooks products - he became much more interested in working with me. I only have 525 hours but with 285 of that in my Rotary Powered RV-6A - so I suspect they feel the risk is somewhat lower with that many rotary hours. Just an opinion of course.

Subject: [FlyRotary] Insurance!!!
Are any of you having problems getting insurance for the Lancair? I tried
to get a quote for a Lancair Legacy FG yesterday and was turned down.
I tried both Avemco and Falcon.
Avemco wanted 600 hours and an instrument rating.
Falcon wanted 500 hours and an instrument rating.
I have just shy of 300 hours commercial pilot, single and multi, and
instrument rating. About 50 hours of single engine complex retractable.
They declined to quote me???
Are all you guys retired military and airline pilots with thousands of
hours?? What gives here and do any of you have any suggestions?
