Re: [FlyRotary] Re: Vapor Lock
Hi, Herb....unfortunately this is not exactly the case.  I installed the vent line and bypassed the Facet pump at the same time, then I was unable to induce vapor lock. Since I accomplished both mods at the same time, I'm not sure which contributed most to the cure.  I have not tested the engine with only the sump tank vent, or only the Facet pump bypassed, only with both mods accomplished.  Since I took both Excedrin and Tylenol, I don't know which cured the headache. Since Paul was able to duplicate the problem with the Facet in the line and the 3/16 od vent line installed, and was NOT able to duplicate the problem when he removed the Facet from the system, I would interpret that (1) The vent line is not large enough to vent in that particular situation and (2) The Facet pump is not necessary and perhaps even in the way.

Paul, I know you will stay with it until you feel comfortable, but if you leave the pump in the system (a proven problem), I would like to see you go to at least a 3/8 od vent line.

Herb

Hi Paul;

    I'd suggest that now that you have the vent tube, you really aren't concerned whether the Facet pump will allow backflow. As a matter of fact I 'd even suggest that I wouldn't want it, but I'd certainly want the ability to pump it forward to force cool fuel into the header tank, thereby forcing any possible vapour back through the vent line. I don't have any problems drawing fuel through my Facet pumps and I wouldn't be without them.

Just my 2 bits

Thanks for the info, Tracy.  My only concern is this....if the Facet pump was not involved, might it be better to have it back in the system so that if I have a future problem, I could turn the Facet pump on to pressurize the sump tank with fresh fuel?  Ed seems to be comfortable with this, and has had to use it.
