I think someone else already mentioned this, but if our assumption is that you'll lose the belt, then your battery will far outlast your coolant and engine due to the loss of the mechanical water pump.   
True, but this not a problem is you have an EWP, right?
I, for one, would love to see a simple back alternator option for the rotary.

True, and with an EWP, you have more need for a reliable power source.  I really need to figure out how long my engine can run on a full battery if the alternator goes Tango Uniform.  Guess what my immediate rationalization was for spending $250 on a DC clamp on meter :-)
