Back when I was
deciding on an engine for the RV-8, I looked at resale, and decided that I
couldn't afford to put a rotary in it. On one hand, installing the new
Lycoming was the best thing I could have done, because I sold the plane for a
premium price. On the other hand, I'd really like to have that plane
now, with a rotary engine in it. If I had installed the rotary, I would
still be tinkering with it, and would probably never have sold it. I think
it just took me a few years to figure out what part of this hobby appealed to me
most.
Eventually, resale
will be the same, or better with an alternative engine, but I don't think we're
there yet. It would be interesting to see what an RV with an
Eggenfellner package sells for on the used market these days.
That's considered the top of the line "conversion", and has such a
loyal following that it might equal the Lycoming
resale.
Still just considering
options for the future. Eventually, I'll either have to get another
hanger, or get rid of a plane.
Cheers,
Rusty (prop will
be back next Week)
