I guess the real question is what real benefit we get from this extra size?  I don't think we'll fill up the small filter in the short times that we go between oil changes, so I don't see that as a factor.  The larger filter will certainly flow more oil on a test rig, but since we're forcing all the oil through about a 1/4" hole in the engine anyway, will a super flow filter make any practical difference?

 

One other factor to consider is that the remote mount filter (at least the way mine is set up is that it is a full flow filter.  The stock filter setup (at least on the 3rd gen) only filters the oil going to the gallery and through the engine; that flowing back through the pressure control valve bypasses the filter.  At high revs the full flow is about 15 gpm.

 

I have a dual filter, remote mount, full flow, with two K&N filters.  Good filtering, low pressure drop; and probably a bit of overkill.
