I guess the real question
is what real benefit we get from this extra size? I don't think we'll
fill up the small filter in the short times that we go between oil
changes, so I don't see that as a factor. The larger filter will
certainly flow more oil on a test rig, but since we're forcing all the
oil through about a 1/4" hole in the engine anyway, will a super flow
filter make any practical difference?
One other factor to consider is that the
remote mount filter (at least the way mine is set up is that it is a full flow
filter. The stock filter setup (at least on the 3rd gen) only
filters the oil going to the gallery and through the engine; that flowing back
through the pressure control valve bypasses the filter. At high revs the
full flow is about 15 gpm.
I have a dual filter, remote mount, full
flow, with two K&N filters. Good filtering, low pressure drop; and
probably a bit of overkill.
