Rusty,
The Summit site shows both the 20942 and 20940 be "Rear
Sump" oil pans. The Moroso site calls the 20942 a Deep Sump and the 20940
a Rear Sump. I spoke with a Moroso rep this morning in the fab shop and he
said the 20942 is a Front Sump. The instructions on the Moroso site
for the 20942 say to install the oil pickup tube in the opposite direction. See
note 4.
So,,,,, it would make since (to me) that 20942 is a
indeed a front sump in the car. You are building an RV8 right not a pusher.

INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS
These instructions are a basic guideline and some descriptions may
not apply to all vehicles. Always consult the proper Service Manual for complete
instructions.
1. Use proper safety equipment and approved jack stands when working under
your vehicle, or put car safely on a lift.
2. Drain oil from oil pan and engine. Remove dipstick and remove pan from
engine.
3. Thoroughly clean the new Moroso Oil Pan and mounting surface on the
engine. Also clean the Baffle Tray at this time, (if the protective vinyl film
is still visible on each side, peel these off at this time).
4. Remove the oil pump pickup, noting which direction it is mounted,
replace the gasket with the new one supplied. Replace pickup in the opposite
direction that it was removed and tighten hardware to 10ft. lbs. (14 N-m).
5. Using a thread-locking compound on the supplied mounting studs, screw
all studs into the engine block about 3/8" deep.
6. Apply silicone sealant to the engine block and on the oil pan rail.
Slide the supplied Baffle Tray over the oil pump pickup and press onto the
engine block. This Baffle Tray helps to de-aerate the oil when it is subjected
to race conditions.
7. Set a new gasket onto the Moroso Oil Pan. Install pan with the supplied
hex nuts and tighten in a X-pattern to 9ft. lbs. (12N-m).
8. Before replacing the stock
dipstick it must be trimmed from the bottom about 7/8". This will still leave
factory marks for fill capacity. Re-fill the engine with fresh oil to the
proper level on the dipstick.

These pans come with steel studs to use instead of our
oil pan bolts. I am guessing they will be to short to use with Fred's mounting
plate. Does anyone know how thick the MMP1 plate is? I do not see it listed on
Fred's site.
Hi Bobby,
My plate is laying in the garage, and is 1/2" thick. I'm also
sure the studs will be too short, but I'm guessing McMaster Carr has a solution
to that problem :-) I wonder what the modification to the dipstick
will be. Looks like it will probably have to be bent near the bottom to
get near the deep end of the pan. I should have mine Friday, so
we'll see.
