There were only 2 (maybe 3) years around 1984 when the RX-7 used the oil to water exchangers (and no oil/air cooler).  I flew one for about 3 hours before going back to the oil/air version.  Oil was always near redline and word on the street says that it didn't work well in the car either. 
 
Bummer about the small size of the actual core on the fluidyne cooler.

OK, hold on now.  I could have sworn that the 1st gen RX-7 had only the oil/water exchanger, but in looking through parts lists, it appears that it had that in addition to a normal oil cooler under the radiator.  If that's the case, then the oil/water exchanger alone won't do me much good. 
 
If you've got one, let me know, but I've got some more checking to do before I decide if it's worth messing with.
