Greetings,
I've spent more time than
you can imagine thinking about what I was going to do with the RV-3 this
week. The whole experience was scary enough to want to abandon the
project, and that was the easiest decision. I even had two guys that were
planning to come here this weekend to look at the airframe. There was even
another guy who wanted it, but his wife wouldn't let him buy another
non-flying plane :-) I won't embarrass him by mentioning his name...
unless he pisses me off :-)
Anyway, the more I thought
about taking everything apart, the more I realized that I can't abandon all the
work that I've put into this project. I still may want to put the engine
into an RV-8 some day, but I've got a lot more experimenting to do before I'm
ready for that, and it's pretty hard to experiment without a flying
plane.
My plan is
to start putting the airframe back together this weekend, which will make
it easier to move out when I get evicted from the hanger. At that point,
I'll probably leave it alone until I get my hanger repaired, and get back in
it. In the mean time, I'm going to give serious thought to what I want to
change to improve safety. I may even abandon the evap cores for water
cooling as well. I just don't trust them anymore. This could be a
long process, and I may even wait until the Slingshot is flying again
before getting back to work on the RV-3. It will fly again though.
Cheers,
Rusty (really just too lazy
to change my email address)
