Good to know, Bill....I am going to ask for 500 miles, then pretend I am disappointed when he only gives me 100.   Paul Conner

You guys should live in Texas.  I asked for 100nm radius in my application, and they gave it to me - pre-typed!

My DAR turned up with the paperwork all pre-typed, so it was too late to change the 40 mile test area. Might be a good plan to discuss having a wider test area before he comes.

40 miles?  It's supposed to be 25 by default, so he already cut you a break.  Most DARs will work with you on this, and I know an RV-8 guy who got the whole state of NM as his test area.  The one and only bad thing about the DAR out of Dothan is that he will absolutely NOT give you more than 25 miles (I've tried 3 times).  Keep in mind that you can center that 25 miles around some point other than your airport, as long as your airport is within the radius.   I did that on the two previous planes, but 25 miles, centered on the airport was just about right for the rotary project.  I bet I spent 30 hours within gliding distance of the runway, because I was always testing something on the engine.

Paul, I'll give you a ring before leaving the airport, and see if you're around.  I don't do anything early, so it will be after noon I'm sure.

Cheers,
Rusty (2R4 to 2R5)
