We're work'n you overtime Lynn, hope you got time for one more.
I'm almost out of ideas on what is driving the water temps up on my Renesis
installation. It has the same cooling system as on the 89 vintage engine
I've been flying for the past 4 years or so. At low power settings (about
6 gph fuel burn) the water temp is about 15 degrees higher than it used to
be. Oil temp is same as before. I have almost exhausted all my ideas
on what is causing this. I am fairly certain that the cooling system is
actually dissipating more heat at any given power setting than it was with
old engine.
There are a few clues that lead me to think that it may be the
longer (and additional) exhaust path through the block that leads to the higher
coolant temps. One of them is that the higher temps don't
seem to be causing a problem since the temps don't seem to go up as much when
power is added. I.e., the old engine would heat up about 30 degrees when
going from low power level flight to high power climb and the Renesis will go up
about half that so that they end up being about the same. Still, it's very
disconcerting to see them up so high to start with. Another clue is
that the coolant temp after the rads is about the same as on old engine (higher
coolant temp delta through rad).
Have you heard any feedback from Renesis racers (are there any?) indicating
higher coolant temps?
Tracy (hoping I can ignore the temps and get on with other
stuff)
PS: Going through a website server change so it's down for up to a
week or so.
