I watched a friend in a Questair Venture roll off the runway at Reno at a very slow speed.  He was rolling just fast enough to flip over inverted.  It took the rescue crew a looong time to get enough people to lift the wing high enough for him to crawl out.  Fuel was pouring out and over the crew while they lifted.  My take away?

I installed a AirCrafters removable rear window for emergency egress.  
An emergency off airport landing on a not for sure smooth and hard surface in a tilt canopy Lancair will probably have a better outcome if you leave the gear up.
If your Legacy ends up on its back, the removable rear window could save your bacon.

As I was completing my Lancair Legacy, I had to make a decision regarding the aft windows.  Do I install the windows per the original design, or opt for a hinged/removeable window?

A few years ago, AirCrafters developed a lightweight, high strength hinged carbon fiber window frame for the Lancair Legacy. The frame is hinged on the upper and lower interior edges. This feature allows the window to hinge inward or be completely removed.

I purchased this kit (two of them), one for the pilot side, and one for the co-pilot side.  However, I never installed either one.  If you are interested in installing a hinged/removeable aft window in your Legacy, please contact me off list at:
