I have turned my LIVP engine off and practiced glides. At 120 kts with half tanks and two pilots, AND a full feathered prop, my sink rate is 550-600 fpm. I can easily reproduce the performance of an engine shut down with the engine running nicely, a flat pitch prop at 2500 rpm, and 10.5" MAP.
600 fpm is glide ratio of 20:1
I note my one mile final configuration is 2500 RPM and 11.5" MAP and 120 KIAS, very close to engine out (clean config) glide (not quite, but close). This fact gives me some comfort regarding proximity to the airport and back up plan if engine quit (even though it's not truly protective).

Would those brave souls who have practised "actual" engine out maneuvers in the IV please
let me know what rate of descent vs fuel weight that they have experienced in the pattern. Also pattern altitude
if much higher than sea level.
(My wife wont let me shut the engine down with the gear retracted--DRAT)
I have been using speed brakes and 800 RPM with prop full forward at 120 kts. and I usually practise
with less than 50 gal fuel.
Would like to get my rate of descent close to actual.
Help would be appreciated.
