Claim is a good word for it, as I really don't know what the exact horsepower is.. Also depending on how fast I turn it, as these engine have a near linear power curve with RPM.
But, all that being said, I qualified at 268.781 mph at the Reno Air Races this year. Meaning, ~6,500 DA, in a circle. The fasted this airplane has ever gone. During the race on Sunday, my GPS in the Contour camera read 318 mph ground speed at the end of the start chute. I
really don't want to go much faster without beefing up some things, so that might be the plan during the off season.
This airplane is by no means aerodynamically better than other 360's. Matter of fact, I know it is worse currently. So the only solution to my speed has been power, cooling efficiency and a few odds and ends.
I don't know of any faster 360's, normally aspirated that is..
