SUGGESTION: Install a new nose gear gas strut each annual. RATIONAL: In the past, I did a retraction test during each annual thinking that it was sufficient to ensure that the nose gear would extend if I ever suffered a hydraulic problem. WRONG !!! In my case, the nose gear did extend BUT the gas strut did not lock the nose gear down. (dont ask) Later exam showed the gas strut to have only 51 psi BUMMER Anyway, the cost of a new gas strut is small and since a retraction test is required each annual, it would only require a few extra minutes and a few extra $$$ to install a new gas strut and have some peace of mind.
