If you refinish the cone, do not sand off the aluminum as this will damage the substrate. The aluminum coating can be dissolved with a solution of Potassium Hydroxide (lye), which is available at Home Depot as ZEP Industrial Purple. Scuff the aluminum with some Scotchbrite and MC first to remove any clear coating. Try a small patch first. The reaction produces hydrogen so be sure it is well ventilated.
