I have been in aviation, as an engineer with a BS from Northrop, mechanic
and IA, and as a professional helicopter pilot, for thirty one years now. I
have seen a lot in that time starting with Jack Conroy and the "Guppies" and
even to Alaska's North Slope, but mostly just wrenching on airplanes. I am
new to home
building. And it is a very different ball game.
I was "pissed off" when I realized we are not dealing with Piper, Cessna or
Boeing here. This is a home grown buiseness. Lancair has a fantastic
product line and is growing very fast. Money is always tight in
aviation and good help is hard to find. Lancair has the best help. Their
people work hard to satisfy every customer. I have never been refused
anything I asked of them. I was wrong to make such a dumb blanket statement
as I did. My frustration is a reflection of my own failures as well as
theirs.
Home building an airplane is not an easy task. My first mistake was to
believe the kit would go together like Legos, tab "A" into slot "A", tighten
to standard torque and safety... not the case. It turns out this is a big
test of ones creativity. That can be hard on the ego.
I wish to apologize to the fine people at Lancair.
