I did an experiment to prove it. I soaked a piece of 5052 alloy aluminum in Simple Green for 24 hours. This is a bit harsh, but it does prove that the Simple Green is corrosive. I posted a picture of the results on the web here: http://www.testelectronics.com/lancair/simplegreen.jpg As you can see, the Simple Green actually froths and bubbles up. The green liquid is pure Simple Green. The brownish colored puddles and swirls are aluminum oxide dissolved off the test piece into the Simple Green. I think I would still use it with care on stubborn deposits on the underside of my L 360 when I get it done because it is not aluminum, then just rinse really good. However, I am going to have to find something else to clean my all aluminum Beechcraft Sundowner spam can. Rinsing won't help because the stuff can wick up into cracks in the paint and not rinse off. Here is the product that the guys in my Beechcraft newsgroup recommended: http://www.washwax.com/ I bet this stuff does not get the grime off as well as Simple Green. I'll just have to deal with laying on my back getting junk dripped in my face longer now.
