The LNC2 Nose Strut self centering modification also includes a second
clamp-collar with elongated holes in the flange so that minor (a few degrees)
adjustments can be made to ensure that the wheel is indeed centered by the
internal mechanism. This certainly stregthens the wheel to strut union.

Lancair may ship the strut (new or modified) with the Allen head clamp screw
only finger tight.  After centering adjustments make sure that the clamp is
tight since it, the roll pin and the properly tightened
strut-flange/wheel-fork bolts keep the wheel from swiveling on the strut rod.
There was a recently submitted SDR on this.

Lancair has always said that the strut must have the proper amount of fluid
and appropriate amount of nitrogen to ensure the dampening (both shock and
shimmy) to function correctly.  Low fluid may damage the internal mechanisms.

A high-speed sharp turn or a rough field can put tremendous stress on the
nose gear shimmy dempener. Slow down.
