The product, commonly used for household cleaning, is highly corrosive to aircraft aluminum, the Department of Defense concluded from product testing. The Army made a recommendation to its units which could also be applied to general aviation. Army officials said that if Simple Green has been used, the aircraft should be immediately washed with fresh water and approved cleaners. A corrosion inspection should follow. An article in AOPA Pilot (see "Airframe and Powerplant: Bucket Brigade," May 2000 Pilot) had mentioned Simple Green as an aircraft cleaning product. > I have thrown away all my Simple Green. For exhaust stains, I use Dow Bathroom Cleaner (Scrubbing Bubbles) -- Just spray it on and, wipe it and the exhaust residue off. For my high-speed Lancair wings, I use Dri-Wash. It provides for a very shiney and slippery surface -- Makes for very easy bug removal. The windshield gets Original Pledge -- use a soft cloth. My Lancair is clear coated -- I will never "wax" it. If you want to restore the finish to "like new", just buff it out.
