When I purchased my IV-P it had the 2.2" cylindrical lights.  One on the nose wheel strut and one on the co-pilot side intake.  It also had 2 HID lights in the wingtips.  I've taken both cylindrical lights off.  Even for taxi I found them less than what I felt I needed.  But to answer your questions:

The mount on the strut was marginal.  It was mounted using the same hose clamps as the firewall closeout shield.  With the new style strut, I'm not sure where it would fit.  Mine fell off when the mounting screws that held the cylindrical case to the metal loop that the hose clamp passed through backed out due to vibration.  I was not aware of any interference with the nose gear or doors.  (No witness marks on the interior of the doors.)  Photo is attached.

The mount for the light in the intake port was very secure.  It was mounted on the alternator.  Not sure if that was wise, but it seemed to work well and did not require the wiring to flex with each take-off / landing cycle.  The lamp was mounted on a piece of phenolic which was mounted to ground studs on the alternator.  I had no cooling problems (related to that.)  You should have a port in the baffling in front of the #5 cylinder.  Photo attached.

I have replaced that light with a MicroSun LED landing light which I use as a taxi light.  It would be OK for a landing light, if I didn't already have the HIDs in the wingtips.  If you would like a photo of the MicroSun LED light, let me know.  The next time I am at the hangar, I will take one.

One more thing off the subject: when I google my name on the internet I find tons of emails that I sent to the lml list because they went through some kind of virus scanner.
