The USAF's T-37B two seat jet trainer has a clear
plexiglass spacer which attaches between the wing tip
and the light housing. The plexiglass spacer is not
flush with the light housing, but protrudes above the
housing and has aerodynamic features similar to a
winglet and effects the wingtip vortex. The wingtip
on all (or most) T-37Bs is a hoerner type design.
I have considered installing this type of plexiglass
spacer on my KIS TR-1 (has raised wingtips) but have
not completed my evaluation of the merits of doing so.
But thought I would share my thoughts on the matter
and solicit any advantages and disadvantages of
installing this device on different wing tip designs
and aeroplanes.
