I made access panels slightly larger than the lights and mounted the lights to those. That way I can get my hand inside the wingtip in order to be able to do such things as repair or pull more wires through the wing channel or other such things that I don't know about right now. I decided to permanently mount the wingtips onto the wing which is another reason why I made the panel.....for access into the wingtip. The one problem that I haven't solved yet is: The wingtips are by no means flat. So, the access panels have a slight curve in them. The lights are large enough so that they don't mount flush with the wingtip surface, whether you have an access panel or not. The result is that I need a gasket or filler between the light and the wingtip. I have no idea what type of material to use. I've thought about some type of gasket or door sealer or just plain silicone. Any suggestions from anyone would be appreciated.
