Just one more point about autogas - You might not know what's in it.

Besides the difference between winter and summer blends (only applicable to those areas that have winter), there are special mixtures for cities (and some fairly large area around them) that have smog/air-quality problems, these include Chicago, St. Louis, LA, Detroit, etc.  Another problem is in midwestern states that grow scads of corn, like Iowa, Illinois, etc.  These states are delivering autogas with 10% ethanol in all grades.  All of these factors affect vapor pressure and, perhaps, the ability of certain fuel sealants and rubber gaskets and lines to resist deterioration.

The modern auto doesn't care about anything but minimum octane (speed of burning) and neither will the new Bombadier aircraft engine because the controlling computer and other engine constituents can handle the variability.  They are able to deliver the goods by sniffing and monitoring everything except cylinder pressure.  The Corvette has 5 or 6 O2 exhaust sensors alone, mass air flow sensor, baro sensor, intake air temperature, etc. There is control of the spark timing and electronic fuel injectors.

Good luck, experimentally speaking.

PS Where is the Sierra-like engine control?  The artificial VFR display commands the aircraft to climb over the terrain - can the engine deliver the required performance after the tanks were filled with Vitalis, Mazola, Johnny Walker Black or whatever?
