Recently, a Cessna (172-- I think) with a flight instructor and student crashed following a birdstrike. They reported control problems following the bird collision. Unfortuntely both pilots were killed. Remember F=MA. Little mass, lots of A.
Actually, in this case, the important equation is F=0.5 * M * V^2, or Force = 1/2 * Mass * Velocity Squared. Hitting the bird at 200 knots will cause 4 times as much damage as hitting it at 100 knots. As Jeff pointed out, a little mass coupled with a lot of velocity can be just as deadly as a lot of mass with much smaller velocity.
