Pete,

Sounds like water froze up in the flap clearance opening.

I think this calls for an inspection now, even if they have released with the
higher temperature.  Check your rods for bending, and your rod ends for
security.   Check your assembly in the gear box to make sure there is no
cracking or parting.

Now, for the prevention in the future.  In the winter when water is present
along with freezing temperatures, you may want to take a couple of large cans
spray de-icer along and spray close contact areas before flight.

Spray de-icer also works quite well to remove frost from the wings.    It is
the thrifty man's version of the TKS glycol weep system.
