Charlie,

Let me add a thought.  The claim that these engines are "inefficient" does
not stand up to scrutiny.

The best any geared V-8 aircraft engine has ever shown is a BSFC(min)
somewhere above 0.42 and usually significantly above that.

I operate my TN IO-550 engine in my Bonanza every flight at a cruise 260+ Hp
with a BSFC(min) of approximately 0.39 and the hottest CHT less than 380F.

Even the fabled Porsche Mooney engine could not get its BSFC(min) below
about 0.425.

If one tries to operate these engines with very high CHTs one will quickly
run into problems.  The outstanding problem with the TCM cylinders remains
unresolved, but we can hope.  My experience with the Millennium cylinders
has been excellent.
