There were two types. One was "daylight" visible and the other required use of UV. You may be able to get something through QS or a local oil refiner. The "boy racer" (cheapskate) way out was to take a spotlessly clean and dried engine and powder it w/ talcum powder. We set up a fan for cooling and ran the mill for a few minutes at med-hi rpm. A close inspection w/ every watt of lighting shining would sometimes lead us to the inevitable crunched gasket/defective bolt/defective bolt installer.
