In response to Jim C. and other ES builders about static wicks.....Dick
Perry, a friend of mine is building a IVP, and he has advised me to add the
wicks also. I have put three on each control surface (2 on each aileron and
one on the wing tip), but have also connected each internally to a braided
ground wire that makes a continuous loop, connecting to any metal.....i.e.
all the hinges, bellcranks, etc. with the theory that any static build-up
may tend to go to/through these areas, so I have now given it a place to
discharge. Was pretty easy to do. I was able to fold the braided wire over
at every connecting point and crimp on a terminal and then continue on to
next connection. I also connected this braided wire to each gas cap flange
so that when I connect the grounding strap to the plane when refueling that
area will also be grounded. Is this all over-kill??....I don't know, but it
was pretty easy now and I can't see where it will hurt anything.
