Most of the time, the ES wouldn't need wicks. But in any plane capable of around 200 knots, static can become a problem if you're around any weather with convective activity. I've been told that whether the airframe is conductive or not, it can affect your radios. If anyone out there knows differently, please chime in here. I'm not just putting wicks on my carbon surfaces. They're further connected to grounding straps that I'm running into the fuselage where they'll tie into a couple of 1/2" braided straps that run the length of the fuselage and are grounded to the engine. About half of the folks I sought opinions from thought the ES would be OK without wicks. The half that felt it could use some were predominantly the guys who build panels and know alot more about electrons than I do, so I took their advice and put them in. I guess I just feel it's better to have them and not need them than vice versa.
