Joe,
The static wick people and Bill Maddox do call for 15 wicks for the IVP, but
many builders are settling for many fewer. I've bought all 15, but will
only install about eight, if memory serves. Two on each wing and two on
each side of the elevator.
The builders in Washington State who are flying seem to be satisfied with
this number, and all have flown solid IFR with no complaints of static
buildup enough to interfere with radios. One got into a very serious
thunderstorm with hail the size of golfballs and a climb rate of several
thousand feet per minute. There were lots of things that they were very
concerned with during the moments in that cell, but they say the
communications worked just fine in spite of the fewer wicks.
Regards,
John Barrett
