I would suggest applying a few more coats of high build and then spraying on a
guide coat. I would also use 120 grit, not 80. This might cause more work, but
you won't be worrying about the scratches from the 80 when you prime. I would
do all you can while it is over on the top. As far as spraying the color, well
there are multiple trains of thought there. I am not as brave as you and my
painter is spraying the color on the fuselage now, including the bottom.
