Peter,

I just got a new cowl for my bird and
my memory says that there was no peel ply on it at all.  The outside is gel coat
and the inside was just raw coarse weave
fiber glass.  The cowls are wet lay-ups,
so what side are you removing the peel ply from?

Be sure to protect that gel coat during fitting it will cut the paint time down
dramatically.

Also, be prepared to do a lot of body
work around the front air holes.
