Okay - I looked at my Avemco policy, and here's the deal. The standard policy has an exclusion for bodily injury coverage for any Occupant until the FAA flight restrictions are flown off (25/40 hours). An Occupant is defined as anyone in, or getting into the airplane (by my reading, this includes the pilot). This exclusion is NOT one of the exclusions that is eliminated by being a part of the EAA program. In order to have your test pilot covered, you need to purchase the "Liability Coverage for Test Pilots Endorsement". This states that the bodily injury "...exclusion does not apply to [any test pilot asked, contracted or hired] to fly off some or all of the hours required by the FAA prior to being released from "flight area restrictions"". The test pilot must be an EAA member and must have 5 hours in type in the past 90 days. The good part of this is that any EAA member current in a Lancair 360 can be your test pilot. The bad part of this is that YOU aren't covered for bodily injury during the first 25 hours. This addendum cost me $355.
