I am and have been insured by Avemco during the entire 8.5 year construction
process.  I recently contracted with Mike DeHate to perform the first flight
of my Lancair 360. Prior to the initial flight I contacted Avemco to
initiate coverage for a FLYING airplane.  The discussions were very long and
detailed.  I'll spare the list all the details.  The summary is that I had
to pay an additional $375 in order to cover a test pilot to fly the plane.
This is specifically for a test pilot, and I am covered during the initial
flight and thereafter.  I also listed an instructor as an approved pilot,
but that was at no extra cost.

Are those of us that make use of this service financially liable?  Is
there an insurance policy in place for this, either one that we buy or one that Lancair provides (and presumably factors into the cost of providing this service)?
