Just one more thought on the subject of Header tank sight gages.  ACS sells acrylic tube for this purpose and I have looked on the internet and found sources of thick walled acrylic tubes.  Is acrylic really compatible in direct contact with 100LL and Mogas.  I've prototyped a 3/4" OD tube with 1/2" ID using an AN842 nipple elbow threaded into NPT threads (using hosol on the threads as I screwed it together).  Seems to make a good looking, shatter resistant, sight tube easily mountable to the panel using grommets and hose clamps.  I have not done any fuel compatibility tests yet...any chemists know of the long term effect of exposure to fuel (I did find that lots of acetone discolors - clouds up - the tube).
