[I've abandoned my idea of a pyrex sight gauge...]
Rob (and others with header tanks) -
I have both a sight gage and VMS level indication for the header
tank, but use the sight gage almost exclusively for header fuel level
indication when flying.
My installation consists of two 1/4" aluminum tube nipples 'Hysoled'
in the top and bottom of the header tank, with a length of translucent
yellow F-4040 (fuel rated) Tygon tubing looped through the instrument panel,
on the right side of the radio stack.
The Tygon is secured in place with a length of 7/16" aluminum tubing
(3/8" I.D.) 'Hysoled' to the right side of the radio stack. The 7/16"
aluminum tubing is cut away for level display. Prior to installation, I had
the aluminum tubing black anodized for appearance.
Fuel level is clearly visible, with no additional enhancements.
Clear photos of this installation are on my webpage...
