Years ago, we used to pull the engines out of old school busses that had been junked for years as a foundation for our drag racer build ups. The reasoning at the time was that the older blocks/innards were "seasoned" and therefore "harder", resulting in a stiffer case. I have no idea if this is true, or if the crystalyne nature of the blocks changes as years go by, nor if an aircraft engine w/ its different block composition can be viewed in the same light. I am not an engineer, nor a metalurgist. I'm a decent wrench spinner. Other racers of my vintage can attest that this was the thinking at the time. It may have been an Old Wives Tale that we bought into. FWIW, we did very well on our very limited budget (spent mostly on beer) and I have a load of silverware vases & nutdishes that continue to delight me, (and assault the good decorating senses of my wife) to remember those days. In deference to my wife, they are mounted on the wall of my unfinnished basement. :{ Regards to all....Jeffrey B.
