Acceptable methods, techniques and practices. Aircraft inspection and repair
AC43.13-1B/2A Page 7-13 states
" 7-70 CHECKNUT (AN-316). The checknut is used as a locking device for
plain nuts, screws, threaded rod ends and other devices"
What I draw from this is that the checknut itself is the locking device and
needs no further safetying. Any of our A & P brethren like to comment?
You should also consider that if the nut loosened and the control rod
turned the effective length of the rod would not alter as it would screw out
and lengthen at one end and the opposite at the other. Both check nuts
would have to loosen for this to occur. Mind you if this happened and the
rod could become completely detached at one end then that is another matter.
