I can't find the reference, but Lancair had an alternative way to mount the wheel on the fork using flush countersunk screws on the tire side.    Gives you more clearance than the bolt heat and is easy to do.  The other issue is whether the fork has "bent" reducing clearance.

It has not loosened any and is the same distance as all the other bolts, not only on the gear with the problem but also the other gear as well???  It has worn only a little bit – not deeper than the tread?
