Jim (Frantz),

As I mentioned previously, I would like to put an AOA on our already
built plane and the wing tips are already glassed on so that doesn’t
look like a viable mounting spot.  When I asked the question to the
Lancair list, it seemed like the best suggestion was the aileron bell
crank inspection hole.  I looked at that and it might be possible if I
understood more about the AOA pieces.  There is about ½” clearance above
and below the bell crank, and the access back to the plane cabin is the
push-pull rod tunnel tube.  When I look at the pictures on your site I
see a moisture separator device which seems to be bigger than this and
in many installations is shown in the wing.  Can it be in the cabin with
the pressure sensor?  My thought is that I can attach the two pieces of
1/8”  OD urethane tubing for the upper and lower sense ports to the
push-pull rod so that there is no interference in the wing tunnel tube.
In particular Matt (Hapgood) said he used this area but hasn’t tested it
yet.  Matt, did you use a bigger push-pull rod tunnel tube in the wing
or was the clearance sufficient, or do anything else special to get the
AOA installed?

Thanks,
Charles R. Patton
